On September 22, RA Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan participated in the ministerial meeting of the Forum of Ancient Civilizations in New York and delivered a speech. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the speech, in particular, he said:
It is a great honor for me to participate in the ministerial meeting of the UN Forum on Ancient Civilizations, which aims to realize the cultural potential of our ancestors in support of cultural diversity and peace.
I would like to thank the Republic of Iraq for holding this meeting.
Armenia views this Forum as a platform for cultural dialogue and cooperation, which can play a significant role in facing the challenges of today’s globalized world. We are committed to actively supporting and contributing to joint efforts to strengthen intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding and consensus.
We are convinced that improved multicultural cooperation, knowledge sharing and policies aimed at promoting inclusive cultural dynamics, innovation, solidarity and sustainability can strengthen tolerance, respect for diversity and peace.
At this very moment, Azerbaijan is destroying the Armenian cultural heritage in the territories of Nagorno-Karabakh, which came under Azerbaijani control after the 2020 war. Azerbaijan, both in peacetime and during the last war, by implementing its policy of destruction and elimination of Armenian culture in the region, wants to deny even the existence of Armenian heritage.
An active and firm response by the international community is more than urgent to prevent these barbaric acts that threaten peace efforts and the establishment of stability and security in the region. Azerbaijan’s deliberate destruction of cultural heritage builders is a challenge not only for Armenia, but for the entire humanity, and it must be strongly condemned and addressed. In this regard, we highly appreciate UNESCO’s proposal to send an independent expert mission to Nagorno-Karabakh, the implementation of which has been hindered by Azerbaijan so far.
Armenia has repeatedly expressed its readiness to cooperate with international partners in order to ensure the conscientious implementation of measures aimed at the protection of cultural heritage and to contribute to global efforts aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity.
We hope that our joint efforts and commitment will allow us to pursue our commitments and further strengthen our ties and cooperation.
