Ermenihaber.am. UEFA launched an investigation into the incident recorded in Istanbul during the return match of the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League between Fenerbahce and Dynamo. At the moment when the Ukrainian team “Dynamo” Kyiv equalized the score in the 89th minute of the game, making the score 1:1, Turkish fans decided to go on a provocation and chant the name of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in an attempt to psychologically pressure Ukrainian football players.
The Turkish club issued a statement regarding the incident, stating that the aforementioned chants do not express the position of the Turkish club. There was a call to separate sports and politics. Due to the chanting of Turkish football fans, Dynamo head coach Romanian Mircea Lucescu refused to participate in the post-match press conference.
After the meeting, Turkish Instagram followers left many comments with the image of the Russian flag and the support of Russian President Putin on the Dynamo Moscow page.
