January 26, 2022, 14:00 – News – The newspaper “Golos Armenii” writes: “On Tuesday, the office of the President of Armenia and the press service issued two statements at once, designed, in theory, to shed light on the dark sides of both the presidency and the resignation of Armen Sargsyan. But it turned out according to Chernomyrdin’s formula, that is, “as always.” No concrete answers to some key questions.
One of them (questions) concerns why Armen Sargsyan resigned remotely. The presidential press service seems to have addressed this topic, but in a very peculiar way. At least in her (press service) message it is noted that “Armen Sargsyan’s medical examination abroad is due to the fact that several years ago, thanks to treatment courses abroad, he overcame a serious illness, after which he is under constant supervision of a group of doctors who are well aware about his medical history. If necessary, according to their testimony, President Sarkissian regularly undergoes a specialized medical examination.”
We wish Sargsyan good health and effective treatment. But still it is interesting to know if he will return to Yerevan after the medical procedures? In addition, it becomes completely mysterious that Sargsyan could not wait and write a statement after the medical procedures were completed. Why such a hurry? Both of these important questions turned out to be unanswered …
The following statement was made in connection with the scandalous publication regarding the citizenship of Armen Sargsyan. But here, too, the presidential apparatus would have been better silent than speaking out. Recall that the day after Armen Sargsyan’s resignation, Hetq published an article stating that before being elected President of Armenia, Sargsyan had the citizenship of the state of Saint Kitts and Nevis and had no right to be elected President of Armenia. Some time later, it turned out that the National Security Service of Armenia would check the fact of Sargsyan’s foreign citizenship. And then the reaction of the presidential apparatus to this story was heard.
“By announcing his resignation, President Armen Sarkissian drew public attention to the real problems and challenges facing the state, describing the situation in the country as a nationwide crisis. Unfortunately, the publications of Hetq and similar publications are trying to divert the attention of the public again with a false agenda. Therefore, we once again confirm that the assessment of the moment and the main reasons for the resignation of the president are clearly and fully presented in the text of the resignation letter,” the PR department of the presidential administration of Armenia said in a statement, reports Armenpress.
Let us note that there is not even a hint of denying the fact of Sargsyan’s foreign citizenship in the text. And if we talk about the intention to divert the attention of society, then this is more about the presidential apparatus with its strange text of “non-refutation” than the mentioned publication. In the end, the key issue in this matter is not why Armen Sarkissian decided to step down from the presidency, but whether he could hold this post at all.
It is difficult to say whether the answers to the questions mentioned are in the President’s Office. The true motives of his (Sarkisyan’s) steps are most likely known only to a very limited circle of people and it is unlikely that the public will ever know about them. Only now the presidential apparatus clearly should not blame the problem from a sick head on a healthy one. Especially without an attempt at objection and refutation … ”
