By the decision of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the process of forming the Council for Constitutional Reforms will begin. “They want to solve the issue of preserving their power by constitutional reforms,” member of the Republican Party of Armenia David Harutyunyan told NEWS.am in this regard.
“In any case, when the Constitution is changed, a diagnosis is first made: what problems have accumulated in society, what are the problems of our state administration, which hinder our further development? Every constitutional reform carried out in both 2005 and 2015 followed the same methodology. And now the picture is completely opposite – there is no diagnosis, apparently, there is only an order. Nobody said what problems of the current Constitution cause concern? Unfortunately, the impression is that, just as they recently changed the Constitution in one day in two readings, they will do the same now, they will take such a step. That is, the authorities are trying to solve a problem that is not of specific state importance, which, however, may have a personal meaning for Nikol Pashinyan or his government. That is, the problem is the issue of power, not the development of the state, ”Harutyunyan said.
When asked whether the authorities want to switch to the presidential system again, so that Pashinyan continues in office, and whether the parliamentary model of government was wrong, the RPA member replied that it was not the system that was wrong, it was just the result of incompetent management of a specific person or political team. … “I think this is the correct model, it just has nothing to do with incompetent management. With constitutional reforms they want to solve the problem of preserving their power, the issue of reproduction, ”the oppositionist noted, adding that over the 30 years of our history we have not had such challenges as today.
