So far, my tenure as the RA Human Rights Defender is not the achievement of any one or any political force or the expression of good will, but my perseverance, loyalty to my oath, wrote the RA Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan on his Facebook page.
“I have had to respond to allegations made by various members of the ruling faction of the National Assembly in various public interviews and speeches, trying to create the impression or show that my tenure so far is the result of their ‘tolerance’.
Moreover, it is mentioned that the ruling faction has never evaluated the activities of the Human Rights Defender, presenting it as an achievement.
I declare responsibly that such allegations do not correspond to reality.
During my tenure as ombudsman, especially after the war, there have been a variety of forms of influence prohibited by law, ranging from outright demands of public officials to suspend or significantly reduce post-war work to ousting ombudsman’s vehicles by government decision to weaken our capabilities. Attempts to eliminate financial independence and organized campaigns against the Defender, discrediting the work being done, including with the participation of high-ranking executive and legislative officials.
“Regardless of the difficulties, I have never presented myself, I am not going to present myself as a victim, I have done exclusively human rights work on apolitical and impartial principles,” Tatoyan wrote.
