December 13, 2021, 17:40 – News – The Turkish lira has once again set an anti-record for a fall in value, exceeding the level of 14 lira per dollar. Writes about this TASS.
According to the data of the trading on the currency exchange, which began on Monday, at the moment the rate is fluctuating in the region of 14.5 – 14.8.
Last week, the stock exchange closed for the weekend at 13.85 lira per dollar. Before that, the Central Bank of Turkey carried out another currency intervention, when the lira began to fall to 13.95 per dollar and threatened to exceed the level 14. However, this did not help to effectively slow down the fall of the national currency. Over the past 10 days, the Central Bank threw in dollars three times, but this did not reverse the trend towards depreciation of the lira.
As noted by the NTV channel, the current volatility may be associated with the expectations of investors and brokers of changes in interest rates in the USA, Europe, Great Britain, as well as Russia and Japan.
Since the beginning of this year, the Turkish currency has fallen in price almost twice against the dollar and the euro, which has become one of the largest drops in its value in recent years. In January, one American dollar was given about 7.3 lira.
