The Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Karen Andreasyan participated in “Crime” criminal justice on December 13-14 in Venice, Italy. The role of restorative justice in Europe “conference of the Ministers of Justice of the CoE member states.
In his speech at the conference, the Minister thanked Italy for organizing the event’s Secretariat of the Council of Europe, noting that this platform of the Council of Europe is a good opportunity to discuss issues related to justice, as well as the introduction of necessary mechanisms and tools.
Taking into account the title of the Conference, the Minister of Justice referred to the process of reforms implemented by Armenia in the field of criminal justice, to the leading regulations envisaged by the adoption of new criminal procedure codes.
The Minister stressed that the reforms in the field envisage a transition from the traditional ideology of imprisonment to re-socialization – the ideology of restorative justice, the essence of which is to achieve the goal of alternative means of imprisonment, including probation.
