On December 13 the RA NA Deputy Speaker Hakob Arshakyan received Matthias Lutenberg, Political Director for Eastern Europe, Russia, the South Caucasus and Central Asia, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Armenia Victor Richter.
Hakob Arshakyan wished Victor Richter fruitful activity and expressed confidence that the latter would contribute to the promotion of Armenian-German relations.
The NA Vice President emphasized that the friendly relations between the two states and the parliaments are developing harmoniously, in this context he stressed the role of high – level bilateral mutual visits.
“Armenia welcomes the German side’s efforts aimed at strengthening peace, stability in the region, creating an atmosphere of mutual trust, as well as promoting regional cooperation,” said Hakob Arshakyan. In this regard, he praised the discussions in the Bundestag on October 29 last year over the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh.
The RA NA Deputy Speaker stressed the need for the immediate return of Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees in Azerbaijan, expecting Germany to play an active role as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, one of the leading EU states. He referred to a special debate on the issue in the Bundestag in March.
Matthias Lutenberg, in his turn, used the development of the Armenian-German relations, expressing confidence that effective cooperation will be formed with the newly elected Bundestag. In this regard, the guest emphasized the active participation of friendship groups. In the context of deepening cooperation with the Eastern Partnership member states, Matthias Lutenberg stressed the forthcoming Eastern Partnership summit.
The guest reaffirmed Germany’s support for the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing efforts. He expressed hope that the visit of the Co-Chairs to the region will be possible in the near future.
Arman Yeghoyan touched upon the cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership, emphasizing the importance of EU support to our country under the principle of “more for more” in the context of Armenia-EU cooperation. According to him, a differentiated approach should be shown. The Republic of Armenia, as a democratic country, is making progress, which should be a basis for our country to receive more attention in the format of the Eastern Partnership. In addition to urgent humanitarian issues, Arman Yeghoyan used the repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees. He considered inadmissible the intrusion of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.
Hripsime Hunanyan raised the issue of deepening cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of science, education, culture and health, highlighting the exchange of experience and the implementation of joint programs.
As an example of cooperation, the establishment of the TUMO Center in Berlin was particularly mentioned.
They also discussed the prospects of expanding ties between the two countries in a number of other areas.
