On December 9, the monument to the legendary pilot of World War II, a double hero of the Soviet Union Nelson Stepanyan, was officially unveiled on Victory Park Alley in St. Petersburg (Moscow region).
At the beginning of the event, Vladimir Ushakov, Head of the St. Petersburg Moscow District Administration, Nikolai Burov, Member of the St. Petersburg Public Chamber, Alexander Nazarov, Chairman of the St. Petersburg Armenians OIC, and Raffi Kroj Harutyunyan, Member of the Board of the St. Petersburg Armenians OJSC, were reminded.
The head of the Moscow region administration made speeches at the opening of the event
Vladimir Ushakov, member of the St. Petersburg Public Chamber, People’s Actor of Russia Nikolai Burov,
Yuri Nazarov, the founder of the Gatchina Naval Gathering, an honorary citizen of Gatchina;
At the end of the event, the host of the ceremony, Alexander Nazarov, President of the “Armenians of St. Petersburg” regional non-governmental organization, thanked the invited guests and participants.
On the same day, in the exhibition hall of the Moscow region, the creative team of the project of erecting a monument-bust was awarded certificates of gratitude to the trustees.
The monument to Nelson Stepanyan, the Defender of Leningrad, was erected on the initiative of the “Armenians of St. Petersburg” regional non-governmental organization.
The authors of the project are sculptor Pavel Ignat, chief architect Yuri Yeghiazarov, architect NK Allahverdyan.
